Tempeh is a versatile meat-alternative that’s
easy to prepare, healthful, and tastes great
too. A staple
food in Indonesia for centuries, it's made from
whole soybeans and/or grains. Tempeh is a
rich source of protein, fiber, vitamins, and
minerals. This recipe uses Turtle Island Tempeh
(see product below)... convenient, delicious,
and ready-made, it's the perfect addition to
this dish.

Ingredients:
8 oz. Turtle
Island Five Grain Tempeh
½ cup soy sauce
¼ cup wine vinegar
8 cloves garlic
8 oz. linguine noodles
3 cups fresh basil leaves
¼ cup nutritional yeast* (optional)
1 ½ cups walnuts, chopped
1 cup olive oil
salt & pepper (to taste)
* Not to be confused with brewer's yeast, nutritional yeast can be found at your local natural foods store.

Red
meat and processed meat significantly shorten life
span, a U.S. National Cancer Institute study has
declared. The study reveals that this is due not
only to cancer and heart disease, but from Alzheimer's,
stomach ulcers, and an array of other conditions.
The study is significant because of its range and drastic conclusions. The U.S. National Cancer Institute examined the dietary habits of more than a half-million people, ages 50 to 71, over the span of a decade. Men and women eating the highest amount of red meat were found to have an astounding 31 percent and 36 percent higher risk of dying from any cause. Causes of death for those in the study included diabetes, Alzheimer's disease, ulcers, pneumonia, influenza, liver disease, HIV, tuberculosis, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, and more.

A thousand communities throughout all 50 U.S.
states and 29 other countries welcomed spring
with colorful educational events in honor of Meatout
2009. Caring people encouraged friends, family,
and community members to “kick the meat
habit” on March 20th (first day of spring)
and explore a healthy, compassionate plant-based
diet.
In Washington, DC, FARM hosted a Meatout Feed-In for Peace, feeding more than a thousand people at a massive peace rally. Serving Tofurky sandwiches and Primal Sticks (meatless jerky), volunteers engaged flocks of curious demonstrators who learned about the inherent violence of meat and sampled some of the best alternatives on the market.
Thanks again to Turtle Island and Primal Spirit for their exceptional support and generosity.
