Holiday Bonbons

With holiday parties around every corner, 'tis the season to put off counting calories... just for a little while. This simple, decadent recipe will tease and please family, friends, and coworkers. They'll swear you broke the bank at a premier chocolatier. But you'll know that these sweet bites of heaven are fun and easy for anyone to make.

Ingredients
4 cups small shred unsweetened coconut
1 cup corn syrup (or white rice syrup)
1/4 teaspoon vanilla

Chocolate for Dipping: 2 cups semisweet chocolate chips

Directions:
1. Mix ingredients.
2. Let sit in fridge overnight to moisten the coconut (syrup will soak in).
3. Roll into balls. Freeze for a few hours to set before dipping.
4. Melt chocolate chips in a double boiler.
5. Insert toothpick into coconut balls and dip into melted chocolate. Place on waxed paper. If desired, roll in crushed nuts, coconut, decorate with drizzled chocolate, etc.
6. After chocolate cools/hardens, store in refrigerator or freezer in an airtight container.

Variation: Peanut Butter Bonbonsbonbons
3-4 cups powdered sugar (some peanut butters are sweeter than others)
2 cups peanut butter
½ cup vegan butter (like Earth Balance)
½ teaspoon vanilla
2 cups semisweet chocolate chips (melted) for dipping

Mix ingredients, roll into balls, refrigerate, dip in melted chocolate, and store in refrigerator or freezer.

Compassionate Gift Giving

For those working to avoid animal cruelty, the holidays can sometimes be uncomfortable if one receives a gift made with animal products. Watch to learn how to pro-actively avoid gift-getting snafus. Colleen reminds us that each of us can reflect our values of compassion while honoring our relationships at the same time. All it takes is a little forethought, openness, and willingness to communicate.

The Gift That Keeps Giving

farmusa.org

We here at FARM's Meatout Mondays are so thankful for your ongoing support. In fact, FARM’s President and Founder Dr. Alex Hershaft is so grateful that he is personally offering to match, dollar-for-dollar, the first $20,000 FARM receives this holiday season.

That’s right – when you make a special holiday gift, it will be doubled by Alex himself!

Alex has been dedicating himself to the animals for over 35 years. He is looking forward to stretching each and every tax-deductible, year-end contribution twice as far. By raising $40,000 this holiday season, we will have the starting funds needed to significantly expand each of our dozen programs in 2013.

Whether making a donation in your own name or as a gift for someone you love, you'll save lives. Compassion is the gift that keeps on giving.

Save lives and DOUBLE the reach of your donation today!
